About The Position

The Financial Counselor 2-ED assists patients who are seeking treatment in our Emergency or Advanced Urgent Care departments to navigate through the financial process from the MSE to discharge or admission. Contributes to all functions of the financial office including functioning as a resource to colleagues. Verifies benefits, eligibility and facilitates authorization from payers and medical groups. Obtains pertinent documentation to support authorization requests. Maintains ongoing communication with payers, primary care physician and RN service coordinators as necessary. Creates and executes financial contracts with patients and payers for both LLUMC facility and LLUHC professional services according to LLUMC policy. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years customer service experience required; preferably in hospital-based registration, physician’s office, Medical Group registration specializing in Managed Care, Medi-Cal, Medicare, and/or California Children's Services.
  • Experience with Federal, State, and County eligibility regulations preferred.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills required.
  • Able to write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; deliver the highest level of customer service to all patients, family, internal and external customers; use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to position (e.g., Microsoft applications, patient accounting, registration and insurance eligibility applications); operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the job.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; relate positively, effectively and professionally with others; provide leadership and supervision; be consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; teach and collaborate; accept direction; work independently and with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve, organize and prioritize workload; demonstrate good memory; pay close attention to detail.
  • Able to distinguish colors as necessary; write, hear, read and speak sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace; see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary to the position.
