About The Position

A growing, established home services company in the Chicagoland area is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead its accounting and finance function. This individual will serve as the top finance leader within the organization and play a critical role in strengthening financial reporting, improving processes, and supporting continued growth. The company currently generates approximately $34 million in annual revenue and has a small team of accounting professionals in place. This role will provide leadership, structure, and strategic oversight to the department while partnering closely with ownership. This is a leadership role for an experienced accounting professional who can bring organization, accountability, and process improvement to a growing business. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on — someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves while also guiding the financial direction of the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior accounting leader
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience managing accounting teams
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a growing organization
  • Experience with Service Titan

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in home services, construction, or skilled trades industries
  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or industry-specific accounting software
  • CPA or CMA certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all accounting and financial operations
  • Manage and develop a team of several accounting staff members
  • Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
  • Monitor cash flow and provide financial visibility to ownership
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
  • Identify and implement process improvements and operational efficiencies
  • Partner with external CPA firms for tax preparation and compliance
  • Support leadership with data-driven financial insights and decision-making
