About The Position

Provide accounting, finance and analytical support in the verification, control and processing of work activities in respective area. Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual and periodic financial statements, analyses, reports and data requests for management, internal departments and external entities. Complete the day-to-day activities, calculations, reconciliations and analyses necessary to perform periodic financial accounting closes. Assist in the coordination, preparation and administration of the annual capital and O&M budgets, the Operating Plan and the five-year Financial Forecast. Recommend enhancements to accounting policies, procedures and information systems. Assist with compliance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and to the FERC Chart of Accounts. Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day to day work routine for self and others.

Requirements

  • Must possess a working knowledge of accounting fundamentals and principles at a level normally acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; and
  • Two years' related accounting/finance experience.
  • Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, no sponsorships considered.
  • May be required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or professional certification desired.
  • JD Edwards and utility accounting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the analysis and reporting of financial transactions and statistics for MDU Resources, its utility divisions, and subsidiaries.
  • Assist in the preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual MDU Resources financial statements and reports for the Board of Directors, management, stockholders, SEC and the FERC.
  • Assist in research, analysis and evaluation of existing and/or proposed accounting principles, procedures and disclosures and the implementation of procedures to assure proper financial reporting and compliance.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of applicable accounting requirements and financial statement preparation methods.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and/or annual financial statements and analyses related to MDU Resources, its utility divisions, and subsidiaries’ benefit plans; i.e. health, life, pensions, K Plans, etc.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
