About The Position

PLNU seeks a dedicated, organized team member to support and grow within the Financial Aid team in the Graduate and Professional Studies Student Financial Services office. You will be a positive teammate who takes direction, shows initiative, and works independently. You are a fast learner who excels at repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy. You are willing to support and collaborate with the One-Stop Financial Counselors to help students and families navigate the complex process of applying for financial assistance. This role works behind the scenes, processing financial aid, to help students’ educational dreams become a reality. This position is eligible for a hybrid-flex work arrangement, with both in-person (Mission Valley Campus, 2-3 days a week, and occasional trips to the Point Loma campus) and remote work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge of federal and state financial aid processes, although it is not required.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, and Excel in daily operations.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with regular check-ins and supervision from department leaders or teammates, communicating progress and updates.
  • Keen eye for detail with a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments with fluctuating priorities and heavy workloads.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and analytical abilities, navigating complex or sensitive situations with professionalism.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with a diverse population are preferred.
  • Preferred higher education or at least one year of direct experience in financial aid.
  • Knowledgeable in financial aid: Federal Title IV and state regulations governing financial aid programs, packaging procedures, and problem resolution
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment regarding extenuating circumstances and policy interpretation

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, evaluating, and verifying federal financial aid applications and all submitted documentation to ensure accuracy and equity.
  • Performing file verification, packaging, awarding, and revisions of financial aid program funds.
  • Making recommendations to the Director on financial aid office policies and procedures, and on forms development and modifications.
  • Assisting with audits, reconciliations, and federal and state reporting as needed
  • Attending seminars, workshops, and conferences to stay current on legislation regarding student financial aid programs
  • Working independently and in group settings
  • Assisting with or presenting at financial aid information sessions for prospective students, parents, and community groups
  • Working closely with GPS One-Stop Financial Counselors, Student Financial Services, Student Success Counselors, and Records to facilitate effective communication and service delivery.
