About The Position

The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive counseling and advising to students and parents on the various financial aid programs available. This role involves assisting with the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, evaluating applications to determine eligibility, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. The Financial Aid Counselor plays a critical role in promoting financial literacy among students and helping them navigate the financial aid process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of one year of professional work experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience in financial aid, university administration, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Guide students through the financial aid application process, including completing required forms, understanding deadlines, and providing status updates on their applications.
  • Evaluate financial aid applications to determine students' eligibility for various programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
  • Award financial aid funds from university-controlled programs, ensuring optimal use of resources in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Conduct group presentations and outreach activities to educate students, parents, and the campus community about available financial aid programs and application procedures.
  • Adhere to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and university guidelines, particularly in dealings with student-athletes, and report any concerns or potential violations to the appropriate authorities.
  • Assist the Financial Aid Coordinator in managing one or more financial aid programs, contributing to the smooth operation of the department.
  • Support students in developing money management skills by providing financial planning assistance.
  • Collect data, maintain accurate records, and assist in preparing required statistical reports. Design and revise forms as needed to enhance office efficiency.
  • Maintain professional competency through ongoing training, professional reading, and engagement with colleagues in the field.
  • Foster an inclusive work environment that respects and engages individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Office of Student Financial Aid by performing additional duties as assigned by the Financial Aid Coordinator.
