The Finance Supervisor is a core member of the GA/FL Finance team, responsible for supporting key accounting functions with a primary focus on monthly and quarterly donor invoicing. The role ensures invoices are accurate, timely, and fully aligned with donor and IRC HQ requirements. In addition, the Finance Supervisor supports accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end and quarter-end close activities, while maintaining strong coordination with HQ, donors, and program managers to deliver high-quality financial results. Job Overview Under the supervision of the Finance Director, the Finance Supervisor works closely with the Budget & Planning team and supervises the finance team’s day-to-day fiscal activities. The role provides fiscal guidance and support to program staff and supervisors to ensure compliance with funder requirements and IRC internal controls. The Finance Supervisor maintains effective coordination with HQ, donors, and program managers to ensure accurate financial reporting and strong financial stewardship.

Requirements

  • Completion of at least two professional or college-level accounting or bookkeeping courses required; a four-year degree in accounting, finance, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience applying accounting and bookkeeping procedures and standards.
  • At least one (1) year of formal staff supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated professional integrity and a strong commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive financial and personnel data.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural workplace.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other financial or accounting software; advanced Excel skills strongly preferred.

  • Prior experience in a nonprofit or grant-funded environment strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day financial operations, including payment review, accounts payable activities, accounts receivable reporting and invoicing, CIK transactions, and other routine finance tasks.
  • Oversee office month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring timely and accurate completion in accordance with IRC policies.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of financial reports and donor invoices in line with scheduled due dates and contractual obligations.
  • Prepare, review, and submit monthly and quarterly donor invoices in collaboration with the Budget and Grants teams, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and internal reporting standards.
  • Review all accounting transactions, including credit card transactions and purchase orders, to ensure accurate coding and timely processing prior to month-end close; conduct variance analysis as needed.
  • Direct and supervise assigned finance staff by organizing workloads, assigning responsibilities, and providing day-to-day guidance; perform supervisory duties including objective setting, performance reviews, training, and coaching in accordance with IRC policies and procedures.
  • Support the Budget & Planning Manager and Finance Director in ensuring compliance with funders’ requirements and IRC internal controls.
  • Work collaboratively with program leads and staff by responding to finance-related inquiries and providing guidance, in coordination with the Finance Director, to ensure fiscal rules and regulations are observed.
  • Lead or support quarterly internal audit reviews to ensure compliance with IRC policies and donor requirements.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process and work closely with the Budget team throughout budget development and monitoring.
  • Represent the Finance department in cross-departmental initiatives by building and maintaining strong working relationships with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
