About The Position

As the Finance Manager for Student Affairs, you will supervise the Housing & Dining Financial Customer Services Team and Housing & Dining Financial Team, which consists of 5 Civil Service positions. You will act on behalf of the Assistant Director in their absence. In this role, you will independently provide financial accounting and analysis for the university’s Housing and Dining System in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This system has annual revenue of approximately $71 million and multiple operating units, including 21 residence halls, 9 apartment complexes, 14 dining locations and Maintenance. You will prepare, reconcile, and analyze general ledger entries for the university’s accounting system. You will extract data from the university accounting system and imports data into Quickbooks for the monthly financial management reports. You will analyze to assure compliance with fiscal policies and procedures, making any needed corrections, and provide training to prevent further issues. You will prepare data analysis and summary reporting for management decision-making purposes. You will develop, implement and maintain financial reporting systems. You will assists Directors and Assistant Director in the developing and refining of the operating budget, providing analysis and recommendations for adjustments. Your main responsibilities include preparing financial statement, providing general ledger and reconciliation services, supplying resource data for financial reports, performing financial statement and budget analysis, and completing special projects as assigned. You will perform accounts payable fiscal support where independent judgment is exercised to solve problems that arise within general ledger functions and finance system development. You will works closely with developers, Modernization, and central accounting regarding technological integrations with Workday and assisted in developing institutional procedures for these integrations. You will provides accounting support and training for staff in other units of the Student Affairs division. You will determine deadlines and plan fiscal projects, assigning duties accordingly to fiscal staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience with a desktop accounting system such as QuickBooks
  • Experienced in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Experience extracting data from general ledger accounting systems and providing analysis using tools such as Excel and/or Access.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with a mainframe General Ledger accounting system.
  • Experience analyzing and/or preparing budgets.
  • Experience using Workday.
  • Experience developing policies and procedures.
  • Experience with People Soft Campus Solutions Student Financials. (myWSU).
  • Ability to present complex financial information in a clear, concise and effective manner.
