Finance Manager

Total Life, Inc.
8h$100,000 - $130,000Remote

About The Position

Total Life is seeking a high-impact, hands-on Finance Manager based in Canada to serve as the steward of our financial health and operational efficiency. Reporting to the leadership team, you will act as the bridge between our mission-driven operations and our corporate growth strategy. You will be responsible for the full spectrum of financial functions—from "owning the books" to leading the strategic oversight of our Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) team. This role is perfect for a scrappy, strategic leader who thrives in a startup environment and is comfortable building systems from scratch to ensure every clinical session translates into sustainable revenue.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or FP&A, ideally in healthcare, health tech, or services-based businesses.
  • Hands-on experience with RCM, healthcare billing, or payer-based revenue models is strongly preferred.
  • Strong bookkeeping and accounting foundation; you must be comfortable owning the books, not just reviewing them.
  • Proven experience managing costs and building financial discipline in a growing or resource-constrained environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with grants, non-dilutive funding, or supporting fundraising/debt financing efforts.
  • Advanced Excel / financial modeling skills; experience with modern accounting and finance tools.
  • Scrappy, proactive, and willing to build systems from scratch.
  • Clear communicator who can explain complex financials to non-finance stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Designation: CPA, CFA, or MBA.
  • Payer Knowledge: Deep experience in Medicare, Medicaid, or insurance-based reimbursement models.
  • Mission Alignment: Prior experience at a fast-growing startup or mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end financial operations, including bookkeeping, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), partnering with internal teams and vendors to ensure accurate billing, collections, and cash flow optimization.
  • Monitor and manage costs across the business; build dashboards to track burn, unit economics, margins, and ROI.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling to support growth and strategic decision-making.
  • Identify, research, and manage grants, subsidies, and non-dilutive financing opportunities (healthcare, innovation, government, and nonprofit).
  • Support fundraising and structured financing efforts, including debt, venture financing, SAFEs, and strategic funding programs.
  • Improve and document financial processes, controls, and policies as the company scales.
  • Partner with operations, clinical, and leadership teams to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  • Manage relationships with external partners (RCM vendors, accountants, auditors, banks, grant administrators).
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare, reimbursement, and financial reporting requirements.

Benefits

  • Leadership Impact: Opportunity to lead revenue cycle operations across diverse and high-impact medical specialties.
  • Executive Partnership: Direct partnership with executive leadership to influence strategy, processes, and financial performance at an enterprise level.
  • Competitive Package: Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • Purpose-Driven Work: The ability to influence the financial health of a movement dedicated to the mental wellness of the 65+ population.
  • Equity Incentive Plan: Potential for a generous equity package, allowing you to share in the long-term growth and success of Total Life.
  • Premium Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plans for you and your dependents.
  • Family Support: Paid parental leave and life insurance coverage.
