About The Position

DGR Engineering is a growing engineering firm with offices in Rock Rapids, Sioux City, and Sioux Center, Iowa, as well as Sioux Falls, Rapid City, and Belle Fourche, South Dakota. We are seeking a Finance Director positioned in our Rock Rapids, IA office to provide firm-wide financial leadership and partner closely with executive leadership to support sustainable growth. The Finance Director serves as the senior financial leader for DGR Engineering and is responsible for financial strategy, accounting oversight, project financial performance, and financial systems. This role functions in close alignment with executive leadership and governance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • 8–12+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in engineering, professional services, or project-based environments.
  • Strong knowledge of project accounting, WIP, utilization, and backlog-driven revenue models.
  • Experience with ERP and project accounting systems (Deltek VantagePoint preferred).
  • Proven leadership, communication, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO and executive leadership on financial strategy, business planning, andgrowth initiatives.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes.
  • Oversee accounting functions including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payrollcoordination, and monthly close.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including WIP, utilization, margins, write-offs, andprofitability trends.
  • Manage cash flow and days sales outstanding (DSO).
  • Serve as business owner for the firm’s ERP and project accounting systems.
  • Develop and mentor accounting staff and improve financial literacy across the organization.
  • Provide executive oversight of the human resources function, including compensation strategy,benefits planning, and workforce planning in alignment with financial goals.
  • Ensure compliance with financial, employment, and risk management policies and regulations.
  • Provide financial leadership and oversight for an affiliated utility.
