We work with premier research organizations and facilities including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other public and private organizations. Axle is hiring a Finance and Accounting Senior Associate to play a key role in supporting finance operations and operational reporting. This position is designed for an experienced accounting professional ready to take on more complex accounting responsibilities, mentor junior team members, and contribute to developing financial frameworks that drive operational excellence and support portfolio management initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to build and shape a finance and accounting structure with a new mission and perspective, and one that is actively investing in and operating multiple businesses. This role requires the ability to work out of our Rockville, MD or Tysons. VA office five days per week. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with ERP and financial systems (e.g., Business Central.)
  • Ability to integrates AI tools with ERP and accounting systems to enhance data accuracy and workflow automation.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to communicate insights clearly.
  • Demonstrated initiative, ownership mindset, and ability to collaborate with integrated teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Perform complex account reconciliations and variance analysis for key financial statement areas.
  • Enhance and maintain accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and dashboards that inform leadership decision-making.
  • Develops frameworks for responsible and effective AI adoption within finance operations.
  • Leads automation initiatives to modernize finance operations and improve process efficiency.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and performance tracking processes.
  • Mentor and train Associate level team members, helping to develop skillsets and accountability.
  • Collaborate on integration activities, including systems improvements and automation projects.
