Position Overview AKIVA is seeking a Finance/Accounting Clerk to support a public sector client in New York’s Capital District with financial reporting, budget tracking, invoice processing, and general ledger maintenance. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to gain public sector experience. AKIVA provides AI-enhanced financial analysis tools that help you produce reports faster, automate data reconciliation, and generate actionable insights. Training is included.
Requirements
- 1–2 years of finance, accounting, or bookkeeping experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, charts, pivot tables)
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience with enterprise financial systems or ERP platforms
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- Valid work authorization required
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
- Experience with government or public sector financial reporting
- Knowledge of NYS procurement and budgeting processes
- CPA track or pursuing accounting certifications
Responsibilities
- Prepare financial reports, budget summaries, and variance analyses
- Process vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursements
- Maintain and update the general ledger with accurate entries
- Track budget expenditures and flag variances for management review
- Reconcile accounts and prepare month-end closing documentation
- Assist with annual audit preparation and compliance documentation
- Support procurement and purchasing documentation as needed
- Use AI-powered analytics tools to generate insights, automate reconciliations, and produce presentation-ready financial summaries
