Barr is seeking a field technician to join our Duluth office team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering and Design Reality Capture practice group. The ideal candidate for this position is a clear and confident communicator who thrives in collaborative and independent work environments. Fieldwork: Travel to locations across Barr’s work areas to collect data at client sites that document the as-found, in-construction, and post-construction conditions. The role is to support construction observation and administration, as well as field investigations, planning, and execution. This will also include documenting construction conformance to drawings and specifications, reviewing construction pay applications against field-measured and observed quantities, and related services. Fieldwork may include supporting wetland delineation, topographic surveys, volume calculations, traditional and UAV-based photography, image and data collection, and bathymetric surveys. Work will include conducting wetland delineation, overseeing soil boring sampling, and preparing samples for laboratory testing. This work may be conducted in a variety of settings, year-round, before, during, and after construction. Reporting: analyzing the collected data from field sessions and assisting with report preparation for submittal to clients. Providing recommendations for payment application based on collected data and developing soil boring logs. Equipment: traditional survey equipment as well as reality capture technologies, including 3D scanning and drones. Software: Microsoft Office proficiency. Client relations: communicating and working with clients to fulfill their needs while on site and remotely. Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. This refers to splitting time between a Barr office, field sites, and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr’s Duluth, Minnesota, office. Travel expectation: willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (including up to 50% travel and 50% fieldwork expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time). Work environment: ability to work in locations that may include rough terrain and other conditions typical of mining, power, construction, manufacturing, and/or rural outdoor sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities and construction sites. Physical requirements for the role may include: the ability to safely lift and carry equipment weighing about 30 pounds up and down stairs, ladders, and elevated surfaces on a frequent basis.
