About The Position

This position is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of wireless communications equipment, including voice, data, SCADA, video, microwave equipment, as well as field networking/automation hardware and AC/DC power systems. This position applies wireless and networking principles to support and troubleshoot systems using software management and monitoring platforms. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service while being on the front line of interacting with clients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Associate’s degree in Electronics or seven years of equivalent experience in the field of Electronics is required.
  • Seven or more years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of telecommunications systems, including wireless data systems, SCADA and LAN cabling systems are required.
  • Proven experience utilizing test equipment and software required to support telecommunications in the field required.
  • Understanding of Windows-based operating systems with working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Adobe, and Google programs.
  • Familiar with command line interfaces (CLI) and know how to set static IP addresses on a computer.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and software applications.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • FCC license is preferred.
  • Network certification such as CCNA is a plus.
  • Proven experience with phone and microwave communication systems installation and maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of communications systems including voice, data, SCADA, video, microwave, satellite, and wireless systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Assist the Projects group with the implementation of project-related systems (deployments, cutovers, validation, documentation).
  • Direct local contractors engaged in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems; verify workmanship and adherence to standards/safety.
  • Provide first-level support and training to field operations personnel on communications systems and standard troubleshooting practices.
  • Act as first-level liaison between field operations and the IT organization; triage issues, coordinate escalations, and support resolution.
  • Drive standards in the field and provide feedback to the communications engineering team to improve reliability, maintainability, and consistency.
  • Installation of wireless network equipment, including broadband and narrowband radios, antennas, and cellular modems.
  • Configure and troubleshoot radio equipment, including access points, base stations, slave, subscriber radios, and PTP radios.
  • Understand fundamentals of wireless design tools as well as network monitoring tools such as Radio Admin, cnMaestro and IMS.
  • Installation of field networking and automation equipment, including routers, switches, media converters and POE injectors.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, including IP subnetting, VLAN’;s, NAT, and Port translation.
  • Work with engineers over the phone to troubleshoot and configure routers and switches through CLI.
  • Termination and testing of ethernet and coax cabling, including CAT5e/6/6A, RG coax, LMR coax, heliax, and fiber.
  • Installing both rigid and EMT conduit.
  • Working with AC and DC power systems, installing breakers, fuses, batteries, power distribution systems, and UPSs.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and assemble 12-, 24-, and 48-volt DC battery arrays.
  • Install grounding and lightning protection units (LPUs)
  • Installation and mounting of equipment cabinets.
  • Design and build equipment panels.
  • Operating and working from manlift baskets, bucket trucks, and scissor lifts.
  • Pulling trailers as needed to transport equipment and materials to various job sites.
  • Function as a project lead.
  • Perform quality control inspections and site surveys.
  • Mentor new field technicians.
  • Complete documentation and other required forms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Travel up to 40% of the time to various locations to perform job duties.
  • Ability to dig ditches to install underground equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle, have a clean driving record, and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Support and adhere to the Corporate Health & Safety Program.
  • May require availability outside of normal business hours on an on-call basis.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by management.
