About The Position

Psomas' Survey Department is currently involved in a wide variety of project work, including roadway and interchange improvements, boundary work, subsurface utility networks, airports, and construction layouts. As our Field Surveyor, you will be responsible for visiting various job sites and making precise survey measurements utilizing robotic total stations, digital levels, and network GPS rovers. Candidates must have the ability to follow direction/instrumentation and work cooperatively as part of a team and to recognize and mitigate safety hazards. This position involves daily travel to job sites located throughout Washington, primarily in the greater Puget Sound area. This is a full-time position. Work schedule is normally Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5-10 years relevant experience in Land Surveying with a working understanding of Geometric and Trigonometric mathematical principles
  • Experience collecting data with GPS, robotic total station, and data collectors
  • Ability to pass a standard drug and alcohol test
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to travel daily to job sites (daily inspection includes travel to various job sites) and occasionally out of town within Washington
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in inclement weather; and on active construction sites including walking over uneven terrain, climbing ladders, crawling, stooping; and wearing required safety equipment while practicing safety protocols
  • Physically capable of performing demanding fieldwork for extended periods (up to 12 hours), including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, swinging, chopping, digging, lifting, and carrying up to 100 lbs. for distances up to 100 feet over uneven terrain

Responsibilities

  • Assist with completing control networks, topographic surveys, construction staking, level loops, monument recovery, and as-built surveys and perform other field survey duties as needed
  • Perform survey calculations, analysis, and field support calculations
  • Utilize and operate all types of survey instruments and equipment
  • Acquire and apply standard note keeping and sketching methods
  • Prepare total station, GPS base, and other supplies for daily staking tasks
  • Understand and apply proper field survey procedures
