About The Position

The purpose of this position is to conduct residential and small commercial electric and water service field duties related to a full range of service orders including turning meters on/off, re-reads, inspections, maintenance, and drive-by and hand-held meter readings. This may include direct interface with the customer in responding to service interruptions, metering discrepancies, non-payment, tampering and other customer related service matters.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year of experience, or any combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions of the position are required.
  • Requires a valid Colorado driver’s license or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Requires First Aid and CPR Certifications or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Sufficient keyboard speed and accuracy to enter and retrieve data from computer terminal effectively and efficiently.
  • Able to obtain the following ICS Certifications: IS100 & 700 within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write complex reports and distill information for many audiences.
  • This position requires close, distance and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to hear an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using one or both ears, at a distance of six (6) feet. Ability to hear sounds and signals indicating work and safety necessities.
  • This position requires standing, walking and sitting for periods of time. Utilization of hands and fingers to operate office computer keyboard and equipment required. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch if needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to thirty (30) pounds as needed and frequently lift up to fifteen (15) pounds.
  • This position requires effective proficiency in the use of computer software and applications, office equipment, and professional telephone use. The ability to adequately type quickly with few to no errors is also very important. This position will often require multi-tasking in the use of computer, phone, and office equipment while interacting with clients. Candidates for this position may be required to take and pass technology proficiency assessments prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer Advanced Metering Certification.
  • Knowledge of electric and water meter installation techniques preferred.
  • Knowledge of collection techniques and procedures preferred.
  • National Electric Safety Code Training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for disconnecting, reconnecting, and exchanging electric (single-phase meters of 200 amps or less) and water meters, obtaining start and final meter readings, voltage testing, and notification to operating departments of any electric and water problems requiring troubleshooting assistance.
  • Troubleshoots and performs diagnostics on both electric and water meters and troubleshoots meters and changes out when needed
  • Test all AMI/AMR meters resets consumption to 0, and pushes current firmware to ensure all are updated to current versions prior to storage and maintains records.
  • Drives and walks meter reading routes utilizing computerized storage device as well as demand/power factor reads on large commercial and industrial accounts.
  • Reads commercial meters for monthly billing.
  • Conducts National Electric Safety Code inspections, recording the inspection information and reporting all NESC violations.
  • Provides on-site service, by appointment, to residential and small commercial account customers to resolve concerns about billing, consumption, rate, service delivery, and equipment.
  • Retrieves payments from satellite collection boxes; delivers payments to bank.
  • Manages all high bill complaints for water and electric.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with citizens and co-workers.
  • May assist with GIS projects.
  • Attends training and educational programs to remain current of latest electric/water equipment and technology.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
