Position Overview As a Natural Gas Field Service Technician , you’ll play a key role in upgrading utility infrastructure by installing electronic gas meter readers . This is a hands-on, field-based role that allows you to work independently while being part of a strong, safety-driven team. You’ll receive a company truck, iPhone, and comprehensive training , along with opportunities to grow into other Core & Main divisions after 12 months. This is a full-time position with steady work year-round , regardless of weather conditions, thanks to our customer contracts.

Requirements

• Must be able to pass a full background and DOT check including clean MVR, criminal, drug test and physical
• Must have a clean driving record (MVR) and pass a background check.
• Strong self-management skills: time management, independence, and accountability.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions with frequent stops.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in the gas/utility industry strongly preferred.
• Backgrounds that transition well into this role include: Leak survey technicians Route delivery drivers Maintenance mechanics Pipe layers Cable/telecom technicians Other field-based or manual labor roles

Responsibilities

• Install and replace electronic meter readers on residential gas meters.
• Work from daily route sheets (average 35 stops per day / 4–5 stops per hour).
• Perform outdoor, primarily exterior work with minimal customer interaction.
• Use GPS-equipped company truck and mobile technology to complete assigned routes.
• Clock in from home and begin your route directly—no need to report to an office daily.
• Participate in weekly safety meetings and team events.
• Report to an assigned Foreman and uphold all safety and compliance standards.
