WesTech has an immediate opening for a Field Service Technician who will travel extensively within the United States and internationally to perform installation, maintenance, and training activities at various job sites. Candidates may be subject to pre-employment and periodic screenings, including background checks and drug/alcohol tests.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, gears, bearings, motors, and hydraulics (Mechanical aptitude).
  • Proficient in setting up and aligning heavy equipment and industrial machinery (Machine installation & alignment).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics (Blueprint reading).
  • Basic to advanced welding skills (MIG, TIG, stick) and metal fabrication (Welding & fabrication).
  • Use of calipers, micrometers, laser alignment tools, and dial indicators (Precision measuring).
  • Understanding of how to install, maintain, and troubleshoot fluid power systems (Hydraulic & pneumatic systems).
  • Basic knowledge of electrical components for equipment startup and troubleshooting (Electrical fundamentals).
  • Skilled in safe rigging practices to move and position heavy machinery (Rigging & hoisting).
  • Knowledge of lubrication, adjustments, and replacement of worn parts (Preventive maintenance).
  • Ability to diagnose and solve mechanical problems efficiently (Troubleshooting).
  • Accuracy in alignment, fitting, and assembly work (Attention to detail).
  • Quick thinking to resolve issues with minimal downtime (Problem-solving).
  • Able to lift, move, and work with heavy components safely (Physical stamina & strength).
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures and regulations (Safety awareness).
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks efficiently (Time management).
  • Clear verbal and written communication, especially when working with engineers or plant operators (Communication).
  • Works well with other trades, supervisors, and operators to complete installations or repairs (Teamwork).
  • Must be able to work at desk computer/phone system.
  • Some lifting may be involved, (50-70 lbs).
  • When at job sites will be required to inspect equipment.
  • When in fabrication shop, may involve utilizing hands in and around mechanical parts.
  • Comply with all safety regulations.
  • May be required to be clean-shaven for proper usage of respiratory equipment.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Ability to complete domestic or international travel, including weekends and holidays, up to 80% of the time (90% of travel domestic, 10% of travel international).

Nice To Haves

  • Two year or higher degree or certification in a mechanical trade program, programming or engineering.
  • Three or more years of experience completing mechanical or electrical repairs.
  • Knowledge of or experience detailing mechanical equipment similar in nature to wastewater equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform shop inspections and assist with the installation and alignment of structural steel components and heavy machinery at job sites.
  • Support machinery startup, including mechanical troubleshooting and operational testing.
  • Assemble, install, and ensure proper operation of new machines and equipment.
  • Follow all safety regulations and procedures to maintain a hazard-free work environment.
  • Read blueprints and layout plans to strategically place machinery and equipment, optimizing workflow and minimizing downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues by testing equipment, replacing faulty components, or making temporary fixes as needed.
  • Dismantle outdated or malfunctioning machinery and install updated replacements.
  • Conduct and oversee routine preventative maintenance, including lubrication, adjustments, and part replacement to ensure smooth operations.
  • Operate machinery and equipment (e.g., forklifts, hoists) to safely transport parts and tools.
  • Train plant personnel on proper machine operation, startup procedures, and basic troubleshooting.
