About The Position

Position Purpose: The position will be responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining and operating water distribution appurtenances, grounds and associated equipment. The position will also perform leak surveys, flow tests, line locations, meter reading, meter replacements, water quality tests and inspections. The position must keep daily records of time and material. Follow Veolia and OSHA safety requirements and use the appropriate PPE while on the job. Represent Veolia in a professional manner when working with customers. Use provided tools and equipment to complete tasks as assigned. Operate company vehicles to travel to job sites. Basic computer skills required with the ability to send and receive emails, access work orders through the use of company provided mobile devices and utilize company software.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Basic understanding of the operation of a water distribution system.
  • Basic plumbing, mechanical and excavation knowledge skills are desired.
  • Must have the ability to read maps and locate valves (gate boxes and curb boxes) to perform shutdowns as needed on mains as well as services.
  • Using locating devices to locate service lines and mains as well as curb boxes and gate boxes.
  • Must be able to learn job set-ups and oversee that the work being done is done in a safe, time effective, and quality manner.
  • Must be able to complete all forms and reports necessary to complete, restore and account for all work done by VWPA’s T&D work force at the Harrisburg operation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with Supervision and work in accordance with their input and instructions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and fellow employees.
  • Perform job responsibilities with minimal supervision in a timely manner.
  • Possess good technological skills such as using computers, iPad, and cell phones.
  • Possess good written / verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and Company safety policies.
  • A valid State Driver’s License is required.
  • Good physical condition to be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to hand excavate and perform the various lifting, bending and carrying necessary in this position.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to distinguish color, close vision and distance vision.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, repairing, maintaining and operating water distribution appurtenances, grounds and associated equipment.
  • Perform leak surveys, flow tests, line locations, meter reading, meter replacements, water quality tests and inspections.
  • Keep daily records of time and material.
  • Follow Veolia and OSHA safety requirements and use the appropriate PPE while on the job.
  • Represent Veolia in a professional manner when working with customers.
  • Use provided tools and equipment to complete tasks as assigned.
  • Operate company vehicles to travel to job sites.
  • Using pipe wrenches, pipe saws, tubing cutters, valve keys, tapping machines and line crimpers to accomplish installations and repairs.
  • Learn all aspects of Field Service including repairing and installing domestic, commercial and fire line meters and the use of related fittings and special tools involved in completing the above tasks.
  • Perform flow tests, leak surveys, utility locates, and water quality tests.
  • Perform valve inspection / maintenance, monthly meter reading, customer turn on / off, collections, meter installation and replacement.
  • Maintain good customer relations.
  • Attain a working knowledge within 6 months of hire of the Transmission and Distribution field.
  • Complete all forms and reports necessary to complete, restore and account for all work done by VWPA’s T&D work force at the Harrisburg operation.
