About The Position

Western Microsurgical specializes in the sale, service, maintenance and repair of Leica surgical microscopes, serving hospitals, surgery centers, and physicians in the specialties of ENT, Plastics, Ophthalmology and Neurosurgery. We are seeking a highly independent and customer-focused professional with experience in the service and repair of medical equipment. This role is primarily responsible for the diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and installation of surgical microscopes, while also serving as a strategic field partner to the Regional Sales Manager. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with a commercial mindset—identifying service contract opportunities, supporting equipment upgrades, generating qualified leads, and strengthening long-term customer relationships within the assigned territory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Technical training in Surgical Equipment preferred.
  • Technical training in Autoclaves, Anesthesia, Monitors, Devices, Medical Gas, and Surgical Equipment preferred.
  • Four (4) years’ experience as a Field Service Technician in a medical environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in testing devices and tools required for adjustment, calibration, and repair.
  • Strong consultative communication skills with the ability to position value-based solutions.
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships within an assigned territory.
  • Basic understanding of sales pipeline management and territory development concepts.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to load and unload equipment at repair or installation sites.
  • Reliable transportation suitable for carrying tools and supplies across assigned territory.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical, schematic reading, mechanical, or carpentry skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond independently to assigned customer service calls to diagnose, service, repair, maintain, and/or install surgical microscopes.
  • Perform all work in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory guidelines.
  • Determine parts, supplies, or tools needed to complete service calls efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Ensure service commitments are met within outlined response times and service level agreements.
  • Coordinate delivery, setup, evaluation, and breakdown of new and demo equipment.
  • Advise end users on proper use, preventative maintenance, and best practices to maximize equipment performance and lifespan.
  • Complete job documentation accurately and timely, including service reports, inventory logs, expense reports, and related documentation.
  • Manage inventory, ensuring appropriate parts levels are maintained and unused parts are returned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Partner closely with the Regional Sales Manager to support territory growth initiatives.
  • Identify and communicate potential opportunities, including service contracts, equipment upgrades, replacement units, and accessories.
  • Generate and qualify new customer leads during routine service visits.
  • Reinforce the company’s value proposition during customer interactions, strengthening brand loyalty and retention.
  • Communicate competitive intelligence and market insights to the sales team.
  • Support customer follow-up related to open quotes, evaluations, and service contract renewals.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers, fostering long-term relationships that drive recurring revenue and account expansion.
