About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Optic Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of hands-on experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance within outside plant environments. A strong understanding of fiber optic theory and in-depth knowledge of fiber optic test and verification equipment is essential. Performing fiber optic cable installation, splicing, terminations, and testing in aerial, underground and Data Center environments Operating, maintaining, and interpreting results from optical test equipment including OTDRs, light source/power meters, and fiber inspection scopes Conducting site surveys, document field conditions, and providing input for design and engineering teams Interpreting and working from engineering prints, schematics, and splice diagrams Troubleshooting fiber optic systems and perform emergency restoration work when necessary Maintaining detailed records of work performed, including test results and cable routing Ensuring compliance with safety protocols and industry standards Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other field personnel to ensure timely completion of work FILLING THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING #LI-JC1

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience with fiber optic environments
  • Secret clearance but able to obtain Top Secret
  • Knowledge of fiber optic theory, including attenuation, dispersion, connector types, and fiber types (SM/MM)
  • Must be able to splice Single and Ribbon fiber, splice on connectors
  • Ability to lift, carry, move 50 lbs
  • Willing to work evenings when required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GIS mapping or fiber management software
  • Knowledge of construction permitting and right-of-way procedures
  • Experience working in federal or secure environments

Responsibilities

  • Performing fiber optic cable installation, splicing, terminations, and testing in aerial, underground and Data Center environments
  • Operating, maintaining, and interpreting results from optical test equipment including OTDRs, light source/power meters, and fiber inspection scopes
  • Conducting site surveys, document field conditions, and providing input for design and engineering teams
