About The Position

The Okuma Service Apprentice Program is an exciting opportunity for individuals who have the desire to gain skills and knowledge needed to move into a Field Service role. Participants will gain technical knowledge and practical application skills in both electrical and mechanical maintenance. This will be achieved through attending courses and participating in defined hands-on experience within various departments within Okuma America Corporation. Throughout the program, participants will have their knowledge tested through handwritten and practical application testing to ensure all subject areas meet defined program standards. Successful completion of the program will result in individuals graduating with 480 hours of classroom training, provided by Okuma America Corporation, and a job role title of Field Service Technician I. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Machine Tool Technology, or Trade Schooling (or equivalent)
  • Solid foundation in machining and process determination
  • Understanding of tooling specifics, cutting practices, raw material familiarity, and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Exceptional ability to multitask and manage a range of responsibilities and competing priorities while working under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Superb time management and organizational skills with the ability to meet regular and frequent deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate and troubleshoot with other trade teams, distributors, foreign nationals, and coworkers
  • Commitment to travel to scheduled locations
  • Basic mechanical/electrical skills
  • Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics a plus
  • Basic use of hand tools and variety of electrical and mechanical devices, such as precision measuring equipment, multimeters, oscilloscope, cranes, forklifts, etc.
  • Use of basic PC tools
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as exceptional listening skills
  • Exceptional ability to speak and write effectively in a business environment
  • Exceptional ability to ask necessary questions
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and willingness to adapt to change and take initiative
  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for at least 3/4 of the normal work shift, and sit continuously for 1/4 of the normal work shift
  • Ability to lift and carry, push, or pull up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to stoop, crouch and reach
  • Ability to talk or hear continuously
  • Ability to see clearly to do all work-related tasks (clear or corrected vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Finger dexterity is required frequently for over 3/4 of the normal work shift including operating a phone, computer/ electronic equipment, electronic tools, pallet jack, and forklift
  • Maintain annual OSHA safety certifications as required by job duties
  • Driving record that is insurable
  • Must live within a reasonable commutable distance to Okuma corporate headquarters

Responsibilities

  • Successful completion of all courses
  • Successful practical application skills testing
  • Maintain attendance and grade requirements per Okuma America’s policy
  • Complete safety training as required
  • Travel approximately 80% - majority is domestic, Monday-Friday
  • Install new machine products, retrofits, and install design improvement
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting machine issues
  • Adheres to all company employment policies and safe practices
  • Performs other duties as assigned and explores opportunities to add value
