The Construction Engineering and Inspection team is crucial for turning plans into reality safely, on time, and within budget, providing full-service construction administration, specialized inspection, and testing for various infrastructure projects. This Field Project Representative 2 role is vital for delivering impactful infrastructure and construction projects. The position involves construction observation, documentation, and administrative duties during the construction phase, including interpreting contract plans and specifications, observing and inspecting contractor work for compliance, and maintaining detailed project records. This is a hands-on, field-based position requiring travel, potential night shifts and weekends, and collaboration with other Construction Engineering and Inspection staff on field administration tasks like RFIs and change orders. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for construction project execution are encouraged.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience (or 1 year with an advanced degree)
  • Minimum certifications required by local jurisdiction (e.g., ODOT General Inspector, ADA Inspector)
  • Valid driver’s license (if driving is an essential job function)
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to create and interpret graphs and understand statistical analysis
  • Developing proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Solid understanding of technical fundamentals
  • Team player who follows direction, asks good questions, retains information, and shares information with those less experienced
  • Moderate understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Willing and able to travel for extended periods
  • Willing and able to work night shifts and weekends, as necessary
  • Capable of driving or riding in all-terrain vehicles, small planes, or helicopters
  • Capable of cutting brush with machetes or shears
  • Capable of digging with shovels or bars
  • Capable of kneeling for extended periods
  • Capable of hiking through rough terrain, snow, and ice
  • Capable of occasionally lifting and carrying between 30 and 50 pounds
  • Prepared to adapt quickly to changing conditions and work settings in varied weather conditions and environments

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction observation, documentation, and administrative duties during the construction phase
  • Interpret contract plans and specifications
  • Observe and inspect contractor work for compliance
  • Maintain detailed project records, including notes, reports, and pay requests
  • Collaborate closely with other Construction Engineering and Inspection staff, supporting field administration tasks such as RFIs, change orders, and more
  • Perform basic technical tasks with market sector with limited oversight
  • Perform quality control of basic deliverables
  • Produce daily construction reports and project documentation under limited direction/oversight
  • Conduct submittal reviews
  • Prepare in-service inspection reports
  • Execute force account procedures for extra work
  • Monitor results on moderately complex projects with guidance
  • Understand and employ industry standards and regulations, including relationship/order of precedence of contract documents, materials testing and requirements, and quantity and quality tracking
  • Respond to emails, attend meetings, and answer questions/comments with limited autonomy in client interactions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
