About The Position

The Field Operations Supervisor oversees skilled and complex tasks related to delivery and minor treatment of water and wastewater. This position supervises operations staff to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and works closely with other departments to ensure effective coordination of activities. The role also evaluates and establishes process control methodologies in cooperation with the Plant Operations Supervisor and assists with the completion of required State and Federal reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Must possess and maintain Colorado State Class 4 collection and distribution; and Class A water treatment operator certifications.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in operation of water and wastewater facilities.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Class A CDL with a Hazmat endorsement.
  • Availability to work during non-scheduled hours when necessary.
  • Strong understanding of the systems and equipment used in water and wastewater treatment, ability to recognize and diagnose cause and effect of process and system malfunctions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment, while balancing the need to get outside/expert opinions on complicated problems.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical information both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand technical literature, blueprints, equipment operations, and maintenance manuals.
  • Work with and manage people from diverse backgrounds and points of view as part of a team including conflict management, team building, strategic planning, and performance management.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Regulatory requirements relating to water and wastewater facilities and programs.
  • Strong understanding of utility budget practices.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical ability as part of process control calculations.
  • Ensure that all necessary chemicals, materials, supplies, and equipment are available to perform the functions of the section.
  • Ability to follow through on tasks and adapt to changing priorities, process conditions, and circumstance.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical concepts.
  • Maintain effective maintenance and inventory records.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency callouts.
  • Supervise, instruct, and inspect the work of the field operation personnel to ensure compliance with permits, policies, procedures, regulatory agency, quality standards, and the proper performance of operational duties.
  • Plan, schedule, and supervise operational activities, procures necessary materials, assigns staff to a wide variety of operational projects and tasks.
  • Starts and stops pumps, engines, generators, and operates valves to control and adjust flow and processes either manually or by remote control.
  • Conduct sampling and perform routine laboratory analyses.
  • Schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments, sections, contractors, consultants, state, and local agencies.
  • Develop operational procedures to ensure effective and efficient operation of water and wastewater facilities.
  • Handles hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals during delivery, storage, and use.
  • Analyze and recommend improvements to existing operational practices and facilities, equipment, and operating systems to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the water and wastewater systems.
  • Prepare work orders and other written requests for maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain records, files, and databases relating to our water and wastewater facilities.
  • Maintains database information for process control, budgetary control, and flow records.
  • Reviews operational logs, field testing information, and laboratory data.
  • Evaluate, document, and perform employee evaluations.
  • Assists in developing and responsible for monitoring operations budgets.
  • Responsible for purchasing chemical and operating supplies.
  • Perform work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Works with the Regulatory Compliance Coordinator in preparing and filing the quarterly CDPHE Discharge Monitoring Report for both Groundwater Treatment Plants.
  • Review engineering designs for modification to existing systems or the installation of new systems.
  • Reviews the need for and supervise emergency response to water and wastewater, or other related emergencies.
  • Perform other duties and special assignments which may be outside the primary areas of employment.
  • On call duties as assigned and response within parameters established in the on-call policy.
