About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Field Learning Manager owns and executes defined portfolios of field training programs that support operational excellence across Portillo’s restaurants. This role ensures field training programs are designed, deployed, and continuously improved with strong operational discipline, measurable impact, and consistent execution across markets. Reporting to the Senior Field Training Manager, this role translates training vision and strategy into actionable programs, ensuring initiatives move efficiently from concept to field execution. Responsibilities include hands-on instructional design, end-to-end program ownership, and oversight of delivery across core training programs such as culinary and station training, as well as new initiatives, pilots, and operational rollouts. This role is ideal for an execution-focused learning leader who thrives in fast-paced operational environments, manages multiple programs simultaneously, and builds strong partnerships to ensure successful adoption in the field. This is a hybrid position based at the Portillo’s Restaurant Support Center in Oakbrook, Illinois with on-site presence required Tuesday through Thursday.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or a related field required
  • Minimum of five years of experience in field training, learning and development, instructional design, or related roles
  • Demonstrated success owning learning programs from design through deployment and ongoing program management
  • Strong instructional design capability with experience creating scalable, field-ready training programs
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and multiple programs simultaneously in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to influence cross-functional partners and drive alignment without direct authority
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, operations-driven environments requiring agility and responsiveness

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in restaurant, retail, or hospitality environments strongly preferred
  • Travel required as needed to support site visits, pilots, and program launches, estimated at 10–15% annually.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong, collaborative partnerships with Operations, field leadership, and Learning & Development teams to ensure training solutions meet operational realities
  • Proactively partner with stakeholders to align training delivery with business needs, operational timing, and restaurant execution requirements
  • Serve as the primary owner and point of contact for assigned training portfolios, ensuring clear communication and accountability
  • Own end-to-end execution of assigned training programs from design through field deployment and sustainment
  • Design, develop, and continuously improve training content and learning experiences that drive operational performance and consistency
  • Ensure all training solutions reinforce brand standards, operational expectations, and guest experience priorities
  • Monitor program effectiveness using feedback and performance indicators, driving updates and improvements as needed
  • Manage multiple programs and projects simultaneously while maintaining clear priorities, timelines, and execution accountability
  • Execute initiatives aligned to training strategy and operational priorities while maintaining flexibility to respond to evolving business needs
  • Lead coordination of launches, pilots, and updates to ensure smooth implementation across restaurants
  • Monitor progress and proactively identify and mitigate risks that could impact successful rollout or adoption
  • Develop engaging and practical learning experiences that support fast adoption and ease of execution in restaurants
  • Actively gather and incorporate field feedback to continuously improve clarity, usability, and relevance of training materials
  • Ensure training solutions balance operational demands with learner experience, supporting teams without adding unnecessary complexity
  • Other duties as assigned
