About The Position

We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Field Estimator to join our restoration team. This role is ideal for a construction professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys combining technical estimating skills with sales and customer service. As a Field Estimator, you will meet with property owners following insurance losses, create accurate and defensible estimates, negotiate with adjusters, and help convert approved estimates into sold projects. You’ll serve as the primary liaison between the homeowner, insurance carrier, and our production team—ensuring jobs are profitable, compliant, and executed smoothly. This position participates in an after-hours on-call rotation for emergency response services.

Requirements

  • Construction experience required (restoration experience preferred)
  • Estimating experience strongly preferred
  • Xactimate certification preferred (must obtain all three levels within first year of employment)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the estimating and approval process
  • Convert approved estimates into signed contracts
  • Explain scope of work, timelines, approvals, and change orders clearly and professionally
  • Collect deductibles and deposits (when applicable)
  • Maintain strong communication with homeowners and insurance adjusters
  • Develop long-term referral relationships with adjusters
  • Write accurate and profitable mitigation and reconstruction estimates
  • Prepare estimates primarily in Xactimate using DocuSketch
  • Submit supplements and revisions as needed
  • Ensure all line items reflect site conditions and industry standards (IICRC / carrier guidelines)
  • Maintain clear audit trails and justification notes
  • Upload all documentation and milestone updates into Xactimate, XactAnalysis, and DASH
  • Maintain required photo documentation (minimum nine photos per claim, including full building view and source of damage)
  • Use Restore import functions and provide Project Managers with component reports
  • Participate in project handoff meetings
  • Communicate scope clearly to Project Managers and production teams
  • Identify supplement opportunities early
  • Assist with change orders and scope modifications
  • Oversee smooth transition from sale to production
  • Write estimates aligned with target gross margin goals
  • Monitor job profitability and minimize write-downs
  • Assist Accounts Receivable when needed for collections
  • Support deductible and first-draw collection efforts
  • Meet regularly with Area Manager to review pending sales
  • Participate in monthly rotating emergency on-call schedule
  • Contact customers within one hour of after-hours calls
  • Coordinate emergency services dispatch
  • Respond onsite for large losses (e.g., fire) when necessary
