About The Position

The Field Engineer Supervisor will supervise field engineering and surveying staff assigned to projects, providing leadership, mentorship, and technical training. In addition, this role serves as a company-wide resource for field engineering training and development, supporting consistency and excellence across all project teams. The Field Engineer Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all surveying and field engineering operations for complex construction projects. This position leads the development and implementation of survey plans, methodologies, and best practices to ensure accurate, efficient, and high-quality layout and control. This position requires a technically proficient and leadership-minded individual capable of balancing project execution with staff development, technology integration, and quality control. Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned): Oversee all surveying and field engineering operations for complex construction projects. Develop and implement survey plans, methodologies, and best practices to optimize field data collection and layout accuracy. Lead a team of field engineers and survey personnel, providing training, mentorship, and technical guidance. Train Field Engineers and Surveyors between across multiple job locations Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Engineers to ensure alignment between design intent and field execution. Utilize advanced survey technologies such as grade control, GPS, total stations, LiDAR, and drones for data capture, layout, and verification. Conduct quality control checks to verify survey accuracy, compliance with design documents, and adherence to contractual requirements. Manage survey data processing and ensure integration with project management, modeling, and BIM software platforms. Supervise and direct field engineers assigned to the project, including scheduling daily activities, reviewing work for accuracy, and ensuring adherence to company standards. Review design documents and shop drawings for potential conflicts, ensuring layout work meets project specifications and quality expectations. Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical control points for all project activities. Oversee subcontractor layout verification and ensure field accuracy through routine audits. Support project startup and closeout processes by providing layout control data, as-built documentation, and staff training for field engineering transitions. Ensure compliance with all company safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience Education/Qualifications/Experience/Skills: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred or equivalent experience considered. Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) certification is considered an asset, but not required Minimum 10 years of experience in construction surveying, dimensional control, or field engineering, including supervisory experience. Proficiency in survey equipment and software, including GPS, Leica, total stations, LiDAR systems, and/or Carlson. Strong leadership, communication, and analytical/problem-solving skills. Experience reading blueprints Experience with large-scale commercial or heavy civil projects ($100M+ preferred). Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Advanced math skills (geometry, algebra, and trigonometry). Willingness to travel and spend approximately 50% of time in the field. Valid driver's license required; drug-free work environment compliance mandatory. Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction surveying, dimensional control, or field engineering, including supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in survey equipment and software, including GPS, Leica, total stations, LiDAR systems, and/or Carlson.
