About The Position

Vyve Broadband’s Engineering Field Engineers are responsible for performing headend and field maintenance operations as required. This role is responsible for ensuring that all video from the source to the STB is maintained at the highest level of quality and service. Duties to also include preventative maintenance and repair of headend Coax/Fiber distributions and other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and maintain video delivery infrastructure including headend, hub, and edge facilities
  • Manage RF video distribution across HFC plant including QAM modulation, spectrum allocation, and carrier planning
  • Support MPEG transport workflows (MPEG2/H.264/H.265), multiplexing, statistical remux, and PSI/SI validation
  • Configure and maintain video processing equipment such as encoders, IRD’s, transcoders, edge QAMs, and packagers
  • Administer conditional access, DRM, and channel authorization systems
  • Oversee channel lineup implementation including mapping, virtual channel tables, and PSIP management
  • Maintain documentation of system architecture, channel plans, equipment configurations, and workflows
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (FCC signal leakage, EAS integration, CALM Act loudness, etc.)
  • Plan and execute maintenance windows, upgrades, and migrations with minimal subscriber impact
  • Coordinate cross functionally with field ops, transport/network teams, and programming/content providers
  • Maintain inventory awareness and lifecycles tracking of headend/hub video equipment
  • Follow established safety, change management, and operational procedures
  • Ability to fusion or mechanical splice SM or MM fiber optic cables, to include terminate various types of fiber optic connectors (ST, SC, LC)
  • Work with headend engineers and/or OSP Project managers to perform fusion splicing as directed/needed
  • Ability to properly read fiber documentation and interpret fiber descriptors such as colors and numbers of fiber. Properly identify and access fibers in existing enclosure
  • Properly install various types of fiber enclosures and term panels with various types of fiber. Ability to identify different type of connectors at term panels.
  • Correctly install cwdm/dwdm filters into fiber path. Differentiate between the use and need of a one fiber and two fiber solution
  • Experience and knowledge using Fiber Optic Scope and or a Fiber OTDR. To include footage readings, recognition of high loss/high reflective events, proper wavelength, etc.
  • Experience in using an optical power meter to include proper wavelength selection, db/dbm settings, and proper light levels
  • Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal).
  • Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity to include splice enclosure, splicing, and path documentation.
  • Maintain fiber asset inventory and ensure fusion splicers are kept clean. Keep truck and fiber trailer in a clean and orderly fashion
  • Testing and repair of system components and distribution HFC systems.
  • Calculate system signal losses and make necessary adjustments to resolve problems
  • Install in-line devices on system backbone (Nodes, amplifiers, Line Extenders, Taps, Splitters and Power Supplies) as necessary.
  • Maintain HFC plant and network integrity through preventive maintenance
  • Perform routine tests, sweep and balance of the HFC plant as necessary
  • Familiar with test equipment used to maintain all HFC facilities and powering
  • Conduct system tests and keep records and render reports relative to system operation
  • Must be able to climb ladders, poles, or other structures as trained and qualified.
  • Install and maintain fiber optic transport, nodes as well splice fiber optic cables
  • Ability to review and comprehend cable maps and engineering
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Operate and maintain assigned vehicle in accordance with Company guidelines, and ensures that vehicle is stocked with necessary equipment.
  • Perform regular job inspections on Maintenance Technicians to monitor and assess job quality and performance as required
  • Assists in selecting, training, directly monitoring performance of Maintenance Technicians, appraises performance and recommends salary actions and evaluating employees
  • Gathers and provides feedback to management to maintain the integrity of all Fiber and Coaxial plant
