We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Field Drilling Engineer based in Midland, TX. The drilling engineer is responsible for the design and safe execution of the construction of an oil and gas well. The drilling engineer should utilize the principles of value-based decision making to create a value-maximized wellbore that withstands the life of the well. All drilling engineers work within a team under the drilling lead to handle all aspects of the engineering process, and operational execution for their assigned rig. The work schedule for a drilling engineer is 1 week office, 1 week rig, 1 week off working 12-hour tours while on location. Qualitative Goal: Be a self-governing individual that maximizes asset value through a risk-managed investment approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent
  • Risk Management skills, including knowledge of Risk Assessment and Management of Change
  • Knowledge of HESMS and applicable governmental regulations
  • Clear understanding of Drilling Hydraulics, Torque and Drag analysis.
  • Well Control Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety culture with all contractors on location at all times
  • Keep accurate field estimates within 5% of actuals
  • Ensure all information input into Open Wells is accurate and comprehensive
  • Send daily reports and drilling curves for partner utilization
  • Day to day operational decision making falls on the Drilling Engineer with oversight from Drilling Lead
  • Manage all on-site logistics and third party personnel
  • Accountable for ensuring all laws, rules, and regulations are adhered to during the drilling of the well
  • Ensures location is fit for purpose before mobilizing a rig onto location to commence drilling
  • Work with other departments to create accurate AFEs for future projects
  • Work as a cross disciplinary team to create thoroughly researched drilling programs
  • Utilize the principles of self-governance to create meaningful projects that add value to the department
  • Practice relentless optimization and continuously look for improvement opportunities
  • Review field operations as a department to foster a continuous team learning environment
  • Attend industry classes and workshops with third party vendors to increase technical understanding and stay abreast of new technologies
  • Conduct periodic assessments of offset operators to benchmark performance and cost
