About The Position

For over 100 years, Maguire has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. Maguire is in need of a Field Superintendent for our Construction division. Under general direction, the Field Superintendent will oversee all phases of water tower projects from beginning to end.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing for a new job
  • Set up and communicate weekly work hours allowed depending on completion date, wage scale, schedules, and timing of next job, etc.
  • Monitor with the foreman on a weekly status (minimum) on how the job is progressing.
  • Ensure progress pictures are being taken and uploaded to Microsoft Teams.
  • Address issues as they arise and work with the correct personnel on how to address them.
  • Review weekly field reports on hours and address any anomalies that may arise with the foremen.
  • Send weekly progress reports to the team so everyone is informed on the progress (Field Report & Logistics Schedule).
  • If crews need supplies, parts, tools, safety equipment, etc., work with appropriate personnel to get what’s needed to the sites.
  • Verify with foremen that all items are complete (want to make sure all accessories are on the tank and no call backs).
  • Foremen need to schedule a final walkthrough with the engineer, inspector, or owner, and they need to sign off on the tank being complete.
  • Make sure the crews have final pictures of the tank for our records so we can go back and verify certain items are complete.
  • Communicate with the Project Manager and/or Logistics Manager on when crews will be complete and ready to move to the next job, and when trucks are lined up to move them.
  • Once Crew is Onsite:

  • Punch List or Specialty jobs:
  • When there are punch lists and specialty jobs that come up throughout the year, we will need to schedule accordingly to complete them promptly. Some jobs wait to be closed out until these items are completed.
  • The Project Managers will communicate with the Field Construction Superintendent to determine what crew to send and the deadline to complete said projects.
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will then communicate with the foreman and crew that will be completing the project and discuss the deadlines and anything else needed.
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will communicate with the Project Manager to ensure the job is done in a timely and effective manner, as well as work through any issues that may arise.
  • Personnel:
  • Personnel evaluations are important to crew retention and having the right team members in the right spot.
  • Communicate with the foremen often on how crew members are performing.
  • If there are issues, they need to be addressed in a very timely manner.
  • Assist and coach the foremen through difficult conversations with crew members.
  • When there are vacancies on a crew, the Field Construction Superintendent needs to communicate with Quality of Life (HR) to advertise the openings. The Field Construction Superintendent will review applicants, phone screen, and decide to hire. They will also help recruit new team members to fill vacancies.
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will communicate with the Senior Vice President of Construction Operations and discuss wages for new hires.
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will communicate with Quality of Life to initiate any new hire onboarding and orientation.
  • Training:
  • Training is a key component of the Field Construction Superintendent role.
  • The overall goal of this position is to work with each crew to improve efficiencies each year to save on hours and ultimately make the company and crews more successful.
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will visit crews and review their on-site working procedures.
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will work with foremen and crews to implement more (proven) efficient procedures.
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will document what changes have been made and why. Document files need to be documented and communicated with the Senior Vice President of Construction Operations.
  • It is important that the Field Construction Superintendent revisit these changes often with the foremen to make sure they are still following the right procedures and not falling back into old habits.
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will also work with and train new foremen and pushers to help them understand what procedures and methods to follow to ensure their safety and success on the team.
  • Safety:
  • The Field Construction Superintendent will ensure all SOPs and correct safety measures are being followed by the crews - no shortcuts!
  • Help create and enforce the best safety attitude and policies to keep everyone safe and healthy.
  • If policies need revisions for certain measures of operation, the Field Construction Superintendent will bring recommendations and any new methods to the Director of Safety to review.
