The Field Archaeologist supports the Tribal Archaeologist in conducting cultural resource work to ensure Choctaw Nation projects comply with Tribal, federal, and state historic preservation laws, as well as Choctaw cultural ethics. This role involves conducting archaeological fieldwork, including shovel testing, geospatial data collection (GPS), and soil profiling. The position also requires preparing cultural resource survey reports, performing desktop reviews for Choctaw Nation projects, and preparing documentation for submission to the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO). The Field Archaeologist will supervise Archaeological Technicians and Historic Resource Technicians (HRTs) during field and lab work, help design cultural resource surveys, participate in Section 106 consultations with federal agencies, conduct archaeological monitoring for ground-disturbing Tribal projects, and process and catalog archaeological collections for long-term curation.
