Field Archaeologist Responsibilities Follow direction of field supervisors (Field Director, Crew Chief, and/or Assistant Crew Chief) in support of the research design and project execution; Conduct fieldwork according to state and Federal historic preservation guidelines/standards for reconnaissance surveys, terrestrial surveys augmented by shovel testing, and site documentation and recordation; Perform overland navigation using a compass, electronic maps, aerial imagery, and/or USGS topographic quadrangles Complete and submit requisite field paperwork: transect shovel test forms; draft feature profiles, perform photo-documentation and complete photo logs, etc.; Perform data collection using tablets with ArcGIS Collector or Field Maps. Communicate any issue (safety, injury, heat stress, etc.) to crew chief to facilitate timely resolution; Execute the goals of the project based on research design objectives and applicable standards of investigation safely and effectively; Other duties as assigned.
