About The Position

We are recruiting a Field Application Engineer – North America for one of our clients, an international high-technology industrial company specialized in advanced detection and protection systems, serving strategic and mission-critical environments. Based in Fredericksburg, Virginia, you will play a key role in supporting the company’s growing installed base across North America, ensuring the reliability and performance of equipment while acting as the regional technical reference for customers and partners. MISSIONS As a Field Application Engineer, you are responsible for supporting the performance, maintenance and deployment of complex technical systems across the North American region. You ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of installed equipment, diagnose technical issues, and carry out on-site interventions to guarantee reliability and customer satisfaction. A significant part of your role will focus on supporting the existing installed base through repair, calibration and technical follow-up. You also manage equipment installation and commissioning at client sites, validate system performance, and deliver hands-on technical training to end users and partners. Through these interactions, you act as the company’s technical representative in the field, building trusted relationships and ensuring a high level of service quality. Working closely with teams based in France (R&D, technical support, production), you contribute to local projects, share field feedback to support product improvements, and help develop tailored technical solutions for the North American market. This role includes occasional travel across North America for installations, maintenance and customer support, combined with a strong hands-on presence at the Fredericksburg site to prepare, test and maintain equipment. An initial training period in France is planned to ensure a solid technical ramp-up.

Requirements

  • A degree in electronics, mechatronics, instrumentation, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field
  • At least 5 years of experience in a hands-on technical role such as Field Service Engineer, Field Application Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or Technical Support Engineer, within an industrial, instrumentation, or high-technology environment.
  • Experience working on complex systems, diagnostics, and calibration is particularly relevant.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting technical issues independently, reading technical documentation and drawings, and working directly on equipment in the field.
  • Strong customer-facing skills: you are able to explain complex technical concepts clearly, deliver training sessions, and build trust with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Autonomous, proactive and solution-oriented, with a strong problem-solving mindset and the ability to adapt to varied environments and urgent situations.
  • Value teamwork and can integrate easily into a small, collaborative local team while maintaining close coordination with international colleagues.
  • Speak English fluently

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of French is a plus.
