Great Lakes EnergyBoyne City, MI

About The Position

Great Lakes Energy is looking for a Fiber OSP Technician to ensure the quality, integrity, and reliability of our fiber optic outside plant through inspection, documentation, field support, and minor repair of fiber systems. Who We Are For over 85 years, Great Lakes Energy has powered rural communities across 26 counties in western and northern Michigan. As the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the state's largest member-owned power company, we serve over 128,000 meters with pride. Beyond delivering reliable electricity, we are leaders in advanced fiber technology through Truestream, our communication solutions subsidiary. At Great Lakes Energy, we prioritize enriching the lives of our community members and employees. With over 300 team members, we're a close-knit team driven by innovation, service, and community. A Day in the Life of a Fiber OSP Technician This is a field-first role. Your day will be spent inspecting underground fiber installations, including risers, pedestals, and trace wires; verifying clearances; and documenting as-built conditions. You will troubleshoot issues, perform minor repairs, and support installation and maintenance activities to keep projects moving safely and efficiently. When problems arise, you will investigate, identify root causes, and help implement practical solutions. You'll travel throughout West Michigan and see firsthand the communities we serve, from the Mackinac Bridge to Grand Rapids. The work is varied, the settings are always changing, and no two days look exactly the same. You will also collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and members to ensure work meets company standards. From conducting site surveys to assisting with splicing during routine and emergency work, this role is hands-on, varied, and essential to maintaining a high-performing network. Who You Are You enjoy working outdoors and take pride in hands-on, technical work. You like being out in the field, whether that means traveling back roads, working in the woods, or spending the day in the elements supporting the network where it matters most. You are detail-oriented and understand the importance of accurate inspections, quality workmanship, and thorough documentation. You are comfortable working in all weather conditions and across a broad service area throughout West Michigan. You are dependable, adaptable, and ready to respond when issues arise. You bring working knowledge of fiber optic outside plant, including equipment, specifications, and installation practices. You are able to troubleshoot issues, perform basic repairs, and support installation and splicing activities as needed. You work well both independently and as part of a team, communicating clearly with teammates, contractors, and members to get the job done right. A high school diploma or equivalent and at least five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience, is required. What's in It for You? We believe our people are our greatest asset, and our benefits reflect that. From the expected to the exceptional, our offerings are designed to support you and your family at every stage of life. Our package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, parental leave, life insurance, robust retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, and adoption assistance-just to name a few.
