About The Position

As FE Engineering Director (Mobile & Web), you will lead two high-impact engineering teams, Mobile Engineering (iOS & Android) and Web Front End, responsible for delivering exceptional payment experiences to consumers, businesses, and developers. You will set technical direction across client platforms, grow engineering talent, and partner closely with Product, Design, and Backend Engineering to ship reliable, scalable, and developer-friendly experiences.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in engineering management, including managing managers.
  • Strong technical foundation across client-side platforms, meaningful depth in mobile (iOS and/or Android) and/or modern web (React, TypeScript) with a demonstrated ability to contribute code, not just provide technical direction.
  • Hands-on experience building or integrating payments functionality, including card tokenization, payment flows, fraud signals, or compliance requirements on mobile or web platforms.
  • Demonstrated track record of shipping high-quality consumer or developer-facing products at scale, including hands-on code contributions at the director level or equivalent.
  • Comfort using AI coding tools (e.g., Gemini, Cursor, Claude) as a force multiplier, both personally and in establishing norms for how your teams adopt them responsibly.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical strategy to non-technical stakeholders and influence without direct authority.
  • Experience with agile delivery methodologies and working in cross-functional product organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in FinTech, banking, or payments infrastructure companies.
  • Deep expertise in both mobile and web engineering, experience leading iOS, Android, and React/TypeScript teams simultaneously.
  • Experience with mobile SDK development (CocoaPods, Swift Package Manager, Maven Central) and/or web component library or NPM package distribution.
  • Familiarity with payment rails such as ACH, RTP/FedNow, card networks, or digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay).
  • PCI-DSS scoping experience for mobile applications and/or web-based payment flows.
  • Prior experience working with developer-facing products, SDKs, or APIs.
  • Experience leading fully remote, distributed teams across multiple time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers across Mobile and Web Front End, creating clear accountability structures and growth paths.
  • Own hiring, headcount planning, and org structure for both teams in partnership with Engineering leadership.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, craft, psychological safety, and continuous improvement across your organization.
  • Run effective 1:1s with direct reports, provide coaching and feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Represent your teams’ work and priorities to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Provide technical direction and strategic oversight for iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) development.
  • Guide decisions around payment SDKs, tokenization flows, 3DS authentication, and PCI-DSS compliance within mobile clients.
  • Drive the roadmap for Moov’s mobile payment libraries and applications, ensuring they are reliable, performant, and developer-friendly.
  • Act as the subject-matter expert on mobile payment experiences, including card acceptance, ACH, RTP, push-to-card, and wallet flows.
  • Ensure mobile clients comply with regulatory and security requirements (PCI DSS, EMVCo, Apple Pay, Google Pay).
  • Partner with the Front End Engineering Manager and the Front End team to set technical direction for Moov’s web-based payment experiences and developer-facing tools.
  • Define and uphold engineering standards for architecture, performance, accessibility, and quality across the web platform (React, TypeScript, Next.js).
  • Guide decisions around web payment integrations, hosted payment pages, drop-in UI components, and Moov’s developer dashboard.
  • Ensure web front-end experiences meet security, compliance, and browser compatibility requirements.
  • Drive investment in web performance, observability, and testing practices that raise the quality bar across the front end.
  • Contribute code to mobile (iOS/Android) and web (React/TypeScript) codebases, shipping features, fixing critical bugs, and leading by example in pull request reviews.
  • Prototype and spike new technical approaches to de-risk architectural decisions and unblock your teams.
  • Set and uphold code quality standards across platforms through hands-on review, pairing, and direct contribution.
  • Stay current with the evolution of iOS, Android, React, and TypeScript to make credible, informed decisions about technology adoption.
  • Engage directly in the hardest engineering problems, particularly in payment flows, SDK design, and performance-sensitive paths where your hands-on involvement raises the quality bar.
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive cross-platform engineering strategy that aligns Mobile and Web front-end efforts with Moov’s product and API roadmap.
  • Partner with Backend Payments and Platform teams to evolve API contracts that support rich client-side payment experiences.
  • Oversee incident response and post-mortems for production issues across both mobile and web platforms.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies across client platforms and establish adoption criteria for your teams.
  • Own end-to-end delivery across Mobile and Web Front End: from scoping and estimation to release and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to translate business goals into actionable engineering plans.
  • Maintain predictable, high-quality release cadences for app store, SDK distribution, and web deployment channels.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
