About The Position

This position involves performing risk assessment and field underwriting for new and existing farms. The role includes conducting various levels of farm training for new and veteran agents, assisting agents with quotes, cost estimators, competitor contracts, and sales of farm and crop hail products. The underwriter will also inspect unique farm risks as requested by the home office and collaborate with home office farm underwriters on risks that fall outside company guidelines. Working closely with the commercial field underwriting department and participating in ongoing learning and technical development are also key aspects of this role. The position requires hands-on work in diverse agricultural environments, including outdoor work in all weather conditions and routine entry into livestock confinement facilities, adhering to strict biosecurity protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 4 years of farm underwriting, agricultural industry, or sales experience.
  • Possess a strong agricultural background.
  • Ability to obtain P&C license and FAA Part 107 Pilot’s license.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, customer service, and political savvy skills.
  • Strong organizational/workflow and training/teaching skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and handle stressful situations on short timelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, build strong relationships, and stay current with corporate/industry/agricultural/commercial changes.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel ® and company/industry programs.

Nice To Haves

  • AFIS, AAI, API, or AINS designations preferred.
