Role Summary Join our team as a Farm Assistant and work directly alongside the Farm Director and Farm Supervisor on all the day-to-day operations of our onsite culinary gardens, known as “The Grange” and “The Farm.” In this role, you will help ensure that both spaces are always thriving, beautiful, and inspiring for guests to visit. The position requires close collaboration with the Farm Director, Culinary Team, and Farm Assistants. It is also highly guest-facing, so strong interpersonal communication skills and comfort speaking in front of groups are essential. The starting range for this position is $25.00 per hour This is the pay rate for this position that Stanly Ranch reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors, such as experience and education.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of Farming/Agriculture experience
  • Self-motivated, positive, and adaptable
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently while still caring for seeds, plants, and harvested produce
  • A flexible work schedule with the possibility of weekends falling mid-week
  • Experience working outside in a physically demanding role with the ability to repeatedly lift 50lbs
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Fluent in English

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the farm is thriving and beautiful at all times. Attention to detail is a must.
  • Seed, transplant, cultivate, weed, thin, and harvest vegetables, fruits, edible flowers, and herbs according to the crop plan, seeding schedule, and our kitchen’s needs
  • Regularly monitor crops and identify weeds, pests, diseases, and harmful insects
  • Apply natural fertilizers, pesticides, and amendments according to the spray schedule and whenever necessary to ensure a healthy farm and enhance growth
  • Plant seeds into trays and ensure seeds and plants in our greenhouse our properly cared for
  • Regularly organize, clean, and maintain farm tools, equipment, and bins
  • Understand the Grange, Farm, and greenhouse irrigation systems and oversee repairs when needed
  • Water plants and seeds as needed
  • Carefully harvest, rinse, and pack harvested products and deliver them to the kitchen in good condition, on time, and according to the established SOP’s
  • Care for our flock of chickens. Tasks include cleaning the coop, cleaning the chicken run, refreshing water and food, and clipping their wings
  • Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, pruning hooks, and shears
  • Install trellises and plant supports
  • Identify key moments to obtain approvals from the Farm Director and Farm Supervisor
  • Lead 20-minute “harvest tours” for our private pasta, pizza,and botanical cocktail classes
  • Lead 30-minute “feed the chickens” experience with Stanly Ranch guests
  • Occasionally set up, work, and break down the Grange farm stand at the Stanly Ranch Village Market every Sunday from 7am-2pm.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to speak with guests about sustainable farming and the Chef’s Garden in a friendly manner and answer any questions that may arise
