About The Position

The Family Support Coordinator oversees the efficient and effective operation of services provided by the Family Support Centers. This role assists families in accessing quality community supports and serves as a resource to families, working cooperatively with agencies and other community members. The goal is to support all aspects of the family, including individuals with disabilities, their parents, and siblings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Social Work, or Psychology.
  • At least one year of Human Services experience or education background.
  • Strong organizational, written/oral communication, and computer skills.
  • Commitment to the dignity and worth of individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of state and national trends in the Human Services field.
  • Completion of state and agency-mandated trainings, including: First Aid/CPR Certification (within the first month), Safety Care/Legal Certificate (within the first six months), DPPC/Fire Safety/Human Rights/Universal Precautions Certificate (upon hire), CORE Curriculum (within the first three months).
  • Familiarity with Normalization and Community Inclusion principles.
  • Authorization for Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and other agency screenings.
  • Ability to perform essential job duties with reasonable accommodations.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant applications.
  • Fluent in English with the ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedural manuals.
  • Strong ability to communicate with individuals served, families, employees, and community members.
  • Effective in presenting information individually and in group settings.
  • Ability to understand and execute detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive relationships with Charles River Center employees, individuals, families, referral agencies, and community members to ensure satisfaction with program operations.
  • Respond formally and informally to the needs, desires, and interests of families and program participants through home visits and regular communication.
  • Conduct home visits to assess needs and develop support plans.
  • Demonstrate effective use of Positive Behavioral Supports.
  • Complete necessary paperwork related to Family Support programs, including Respite, Financial Assistance, and Companion services.
  • Develop and promote community inclusion opportunities for participants in educational and recreational activities.
  • Assist in public relations and marketing for the Family Support Program.
  • Support goal development and track outcomes through data collection.
  • Coordinate and participate in Family Support Center activities such as Parent Workshops, support groups, and outreach activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with school systems.
  • Recruit, orient, train, and supervise staff, including respite workers, companions, and home support workers.
  • Provide direct care and supervision for program participants as needed, which may include toileting, dressing, feeding, and hygiene assistance.
  • Act as a role model for staff, volunteers, and participants through professionalism, behavior, and attire.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to provide physical behavioral intervention if required.
  • Advocate for individuals’ human rights, legal rights, and financial needs.
  • Attend trainings and in-service sessions; stay informed about relevant trends in the Human Services field.
  • Comply with state and agency standards, including those from the Department of Developmental Services (DDS).
  • Assist in planning and participating in fundraising and family support events, such as the Ellie Bloom Olympics, the Gala, and the 5K.
  • Help families access entitlements such as DDS eligibility, SNAP, Social Security, MassHealth, ARICA, guardianship resources, home modifications, and PCA programs.
  • Administer stipends by developing expenditure plans and monitoring fund usage.
  • Provide navigation services to families and maintain required documentation.
  • Build effective and professional relationships with individuals, families, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with team members and management to achieve program and agency goals.
  • Complete tasks with accuracy, reliability, and consistency.
  • Clearly convey information through oral and written communication in individual and group settings.
  • Manage work efficiently, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Adhere to agency policies and professional guidelines.
  • Be punctual and reliable, attending all meetings and trainings as required.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills and self-reliance in fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • Support and enforce agency policies and objectives through professional conduct.
  • Compile information and prepare timely, accurate reports.
