About The Position

The Family Support Specialist is a non-exempt position responsible for providing on-site, individual, and family intervention. This individual works as a team member with a case manager, foster parents, primary caregivers, guardian ad litem, and other appropriate professionals. The Family Support Specialist provides assistance, intervention, and education related to issues such as substance abuse, adjustment and relationship issues, stress, daily living skills, budget training, and employment assistance.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalency from an accredited and recognized secondary education institution
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with children and/or families preferred
  • Must display empathy
  • Must have verbal de-escalation skills
  • Ability to work in high-stress situations
  • Ability to work with individuals who exhibit physically and/or verbally aggressive behaviors
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Use of a personal vehicle to transport clients as needed
  • Must have a valid driver's license with auto insurance coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation and supervision of children and case participants to include individuals with medical and behavioral health needs
  • Provide, strengthen, and maintain a positive mentoring role by providing support, training, and crisis intervention to foster parents, birth parents, primary caregiver(s), and other team members involved in the case, to ensure child safety and well-being
  • Assist in developing and implementing activities/tasks directed to each child, parent, and/or caregiver, according to the case plan goals and objectives
  • Provide completed documentation for services rendered within required timeframes to case management program staff with the necessary verbal and written information to present at court and staffing's
  • Participate in on-call rotation in accordance with agency policy and program procedure
  • Attend and participate in court proceedings, as appropriate and/or when required (subpoena, direct request, and when determined necessary)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
