About The Position

Under limited supervision, performs supervisory and administrative work overseeing the activities of multiple social work service programs administered through the City Social Services Department. Work involves directing, coordinating, and supervising the activities of the divisions’ family services workers and clerical support staff, assigning cases and special projects and ensuring adherence to program regulations and policies. Employee is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of multiple social work service programs offered by the City Social Services Department, and recommending changes, as necessary; and for preparing various reports and statistical records. Reports to the Assistant Director for Services. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22VAC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia).
  • Considerable experience in assigned program area/human services programs and completion of required training programs.
  • Supervisory experience or work experience in a leadership role.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are desirable.
  • 6-9 Years of considerable experience in an assigned Family Services Program are strongly preferred.
