About The Position

The City of Fredericksburg Department of Social Services (FDSS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Services Specialist to join our team as a CPS worker. Key Responsibilities: Perform complex case management duties for City Social Services programs. Handle sensitive cases involving child/adult abuse/neglect, out-of-home placements, and more. Conduct interviews, investigations, and respond to referrals. Establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, families, and human service agencies. Participate in meetings like permanency planning, Family Partnership Meetings, and court proceedings. Be part of an on-call rotation with a one-hour response requirement. Maintain detailed records and prepare necessary reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a Human Services field, or any bachelor’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, including a clean search of the Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry.
  • Valid Virginia State driver’s license.
  • Understanding of laws and regulations governing social services programs.
  • Proficiency in interviewing and interpersonal techniques.
  • Awareness of community social and economic factors.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in social services program areas and completion of relevant training.
  • Prior experience with Local Department of Social Services (LDSS).
  • Multilingual abilities.

Responsibilities
