About The Position

Under the supervision of the Medical Director, responsible for all patient care as a Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and for jointly managing the Rio Grande Border Health Clinic (RGBHC) in collaboration with the Clinic Coordinator. Duties include overseeing nursing faculty, staff, and volunteers, and providing instruction to nursing and allied health students in the clinic. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position. Provide comprehensive patient care within the Family Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, including health assessments, diagnostic testing, care planning, treatment, prescribing, and health education for patients across the lifespan. Promote wellness, prevent disease and injury, and manage common and chronic conditions. Serve as a community liaison with hospitals, clinics, private providers, diagnostic facilities, and public health agencies to ensure coordinated patient services and access to resources. Collaborate with the Nursing Faculty Coordinator to plan and oversee clinical rotations for nursing and allied health students. Provide instruction and hands-on learning in health history taking and physical examination techniques. Work with the Clinic Coordinator to jointly manage clinic operations, including supervision of nursing faculty, staff, student workers, and volunteers, as well as maintaining supplies, equipment, and inventory. Collaborate with the Dean of Nursing and the Clinic Coordinator to manage the clinic budget, maintain accurate records, and monitor account funds. Support nursing faculty and the Nursing Faculty Coordinator in community outreach activities such as health fairs to promote clinic services and expand community access to care. Monitor patient satisfaction and implement improvements in clinic operations and patient care. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and proper maintenance of patient and employee records. Coordinate, consult, and meet regularly with the Supervising Physician to review clinic operations and patient care, and maintain all state requirements governing the collaborative practice agreement. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing required, either as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP). Must have at least three (3) years of experience in an outpatient primary care setting, with demonstrated skills in patient care, medication prescribing, collaboration with a supervising physician, and supervision of nursing and unlicensed personnel.
  • NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
  • Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Texas (unencumbered) with prescriptive ability.
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner from either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is required.
  • Experience/ability to teach in the nursing discipline using a student-centered approach.
  • Strong Interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the legal responsibilities, boundaries, and licensing requirements for an Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of Texas.
  • Ability to organize and direct a nursing clinic and staff.
  • Experience/ability to teach at the community college level.
  • Experience/ability to incorporate technology into the classroom.

Benefits

  • Supplemental Salary dependent on credentials.  (23% of salary).
  • A hiring/ retention stipend is also applicable, $2000.00 for the first year and $2000.00 for the second year for full-time Tenure-Track positions.
  • Out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview will be reimbursed for one-half of the transportation cost for travel performed within the United States. The College will arrange and pay for up to two nights lodging.
