About The Position

Applicant must possess a graduate degree from an accredited School of Nursing, holding either a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and must have completed an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program. The applicant must also possess and maintain a current and unrestricted California Registered Nurse License, California Nurse Practitioner License, California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Controlled Substance Registration Certificate, and National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner. A minimum of two years of experience in an ambulatory care patient setting is preferred. Must have current CPR certification that complies with the guidelines set by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation. Applicant must possess a valid California Driver’s License, as the position may involve driving between clinic sites. The Family Nurse Practitioner is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for patients in accordance with Federal rules, the California Nurse Practice Act, and regulations set by the California Board of Registered Nursing. The Family Nurse Practitioner provides primary and urgent patient care in the ambulatory clinic setting, provides care for all age groups, and institutes appropriate diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and referral for consultations when indicated. This position is an integral part of the health care team, which includes medical providers, nurses, medical assistants, pharmacy, laboratory, dental, eye care, behavioral health, and clerical staff. Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.

Responsibilities

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical assessments for children and adults.
  • Appropriately interprets patient historical, physical examination, and diagnostic and therapeutic test data to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities to treat the patient’s condition.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Implements the RSBCIHI health care objectives to include primary care, health promotion, and disease prevention through routine care of patients.
  • Adheres to insurance company requirements to ensure appropriate reimbursement for services rendered.
  • Has an awareness and appreciation for the diversity of Native American cultural and spiritual values and recognizes how these values affect our interactions with Native Americans in the medical setting.
  • Functions as an effective member of the health care team, which includes physicians, nursing, clerical, pharmacy, and laboratory staff.
  • Participates in Medical Department staff meetings and clinic site meetings.
