About The Position

The Catawba Nation Health System is seeking a dedicated Family Medicine Provider to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive, and patient-centered care for families and individuals of all ages. This role focuses on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions while building long-term relationships with patients and families. The Family Medicine Provider will manage acute and chronic conditions, promote wellness, and maintain detailed, accurate patient records. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Operations.

Requirements

  • Experience in primary care or family medicine setting with pediatric, adult and geriatrics.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical School (MD/DO).
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine (M.D./D.O.).
  • Valid, active, and unrestricted South Carolina medical license (or ability to obtain).
  • DEA license and prescriptive authority for control substances.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record and be insurable under the Tribe’s insurance policy.
  • Experience of strong interest in working with Native American/tribal communities.
  • Strong clinical, diagnostic, and patient management skills across pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations, with a focus on culturally competent, patient-centered care.
  • Commitment to patient-centered, culturally competent care and respect for traditional health practices.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) (e.g., Epic, Athena, Cerner).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient interviews, physical examinations, routine check-ups, health assessments to diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, acute and chronic disease management, and treat illnesses, injuries, and conditions across all age groups.
  • Provide preventive care services, including routine health check-ups, screenings, vaccinations, and lifestyle education.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, and order/interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies.
  • Manage conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Prescribe medications and monitor patient responses.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and care teams to coordinate patient care. Refer patients to specialists as needed and collaborate with nurses, medical assistants, and support staff to coordinate care. Collaborate with tribal health programs, public health nurses, and community outreach teams to address population health priorities.
  • Offer culturally sensitive counseling on nutrition, lifestyle, preventive care, and disease management. Participate in community health events, wellness fairs, and educational workshops.
  • Maintain timely and accurate patient medical records in compliance with HIPPA and Catawba Nation Health policies using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and follow clinical guidelines.
