About The Position

This position is responsible for providing information that is available to students and families in the school and local community. The Family Liaison will assist families on navigating The Lexington School services and programs, and make referrals as needed. The primary goal is to foster an ongoing partnership between the home and the school. The Family Liaison will be required to plan, attend, and implement specific activities related to the aforementioned roles.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills; a strength in written and oral communications; administrative skills.
  • ASL Proficiency
  • Strong work ethics; high ethical standards; self-confidence; good time-management skills.
  • The position will require flexibility with respect to working hours to meet the needs of families, including early morning and late afternoons, with occasional evening events/time required.
  • BA + 2 years’ experience in community work in an area related to duties described above.
  • Exceptional computer skills: Fluent in navigating Google Drive (shared documents and forms); Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.); sharing links/QR codes etc., data entry and management skills; basic graphic design skills (Canva etc.)
  • Required clearance includes medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR and SEL clearance.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of walking in and around the building.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluent ASL skills strongly preferred as well as understanding/experience working with the Deaf+ community

Responsibilities

  • Promote a welcoming school environment for all families.
  • Increase family engagement by collaborating closely with school staff, families, the Parent Staff Association (PSA) and community organizations.
  • Serve as an intermediary for the family and school community. Will Encourage direct communication between family and their child (children)’s educational team.
  • Conduct outreach to community organizations that focus on family engagement, educational enrichment and relevant topics that impact our families lives and maintain ongoing relationships with those organizations.
  • Connect families to events that promote the arts, athletics, and socialization.
  • Organize back-to-school and other events to increase opportunities for family and community involvement.
  • Function as the point person for TalkingPoints (our multilingual family communication platform).
  • Schedule and set up Family ASL Classes in coordination with the Lexington Vocational Center.
  • Foster a collaborative team approach and have an ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Assess and prioritize workload to meet the needs of families, staff, and school-wide events.
  • Maintain confidential and non-confidential paper and electronic files, documents and records for the purpose of documenting activities, providing up-to-date reference and audit trail and/or ensuring the availability of records for reference.
  • Other duties as assigned.
