About The Position

The Family Liaison supports the successful integration of students and families from specific cultural/linguistic communities within Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS). Serving under the Office of Multilingual Learners, this position focuses on community outreach, parent engagement, student achievement and involvement, and data monitoring to promote equity, inclusion, and resource access for underserved and at-risk populations. By fostering meaningful connections between families, schools, and the community, the Family Liaison ensures that every family feels welcomed, informed, and supported in navigating school systems and community resources. This position will be serving Afghan families and requires the successful candidate to be proficient in Dari and Pashto.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking the primary language of the community served (Dari and Pashto)
  • Experience working with families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Possession of a valid, current (non-expired) Virginia driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a liaison between students, families, community partners, and the school division.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for families to provide information and support regarding SCPS procedures, school events, and student success.
  • Assists families and students in navigating school processes and identifying opportunities for engagement.
  • Establishes and maintains a welcoming environment for families, with a focus on English Learner (ELL) services and student success.
  • Collaborates with ELL teachers and school administrators to ensure coordinated support for students and families.
  • Plans, facilitates, and supervises a summer enrichment program for families and students focused on academic progress, community engagement, and social-emotional wellness.
  • Collaborates with school and ELL staff to review and maintain accurate ELL student data.
  • Collects and analyzes data to monitor student progress and develop progress reports.
  • Supports the development and revision of program materials—including manuals, forms, presentations, and resources—focused on access and services for families.
