About The Position

The Family Connections Facilitator provides neutral, trauma-informed support to caregivers navigating disagreements related to foster care placement and permanency planning. This role facilitates structured family conversations, helps families reach child centered agreements, and collaborates with child welfare teams to promote placement stability and strengthen family connections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in a human services field of study.
  • At least two years of child welfare experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • KS BSRB licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate structured conversations between potential relative caregivers to resolve disagreements regarding placement, caregiving roles, and family involvement.
  • Provide neutral, trauma-informed support to families navigating emotionally charged decisions about child safety and permanency.
  • Assist families in identifying shared goals centered on the child’s best interest.
  • Use mediation techniques to de-escalate conflict, clarify concerns, and support collaborative problem-solving.
  • Help family members develop mutually agreed-upon caregiving plans, visitation expectations, and communication guidelines.
  • Document agreements and provide summaries to case teams and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Support the kinship placement process by helping relatives understand child welfare requirements, timelines, and expectations.
  • Partner with caseworkers to assess family dynamics that may impact placement stability.
  • Provide early intervention when conflict threatens placement disruption.
  • Participate in family team meetings, permanency staffing, and case planning conferences.
  • Coordinate with agency staff, legal partners, and service providers to ensure alignment with case goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between relatives, foster care staff, and court-related professionals.
  • Educate relative caregivers about kinship supports, licensing options, and available community resources.
  • Connect families to counseling, parenting supports, financial assistance, or legal aid when needed.
  • Promote understanding of trauma, grief, and family role shifts in foster care situations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of mediation sessions, family agreements, and follow-up plans.
  • Ensure facilitation practices comply with agency policies, confidentiality rules, and court requirements.
