About The Position

The Kimbell Art Museum seeks a dynamic artist-educator to develop and facilitate a wide range of programs and events for children, families, and teens with an emphasis on community-building and creative learning. Aligning with the education department’s commitment to innovative and engaging teaching practices that make the Kimbell’s permanent collection and special exhibitions meaningful and accessible to all audiences, this position is responsible for largescale annual family events; workshops for children and families; co-facilitated teen programs; and the “Studio A” play space for families with children ages five and younger. The Family and Teen Programs Coordinator also cultivates relationships with potential guest artist-educators and performers, and collaborates with the education programs manager to conduct regular program evaluation to ensure growth and sustainability.

Requirements

  • BA, BFA, or BS required; studio art, art education, and/or museum teaching experience preferred. MA or MFA desirable.
  • Superior knowledge of art history, as well as artists’ materials and techniques appropriate for museum teaching
  • Demonstrated excellence teaching with original works of art and objects in a museum setting
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain effective and positive working relationships with visitors, fellow staff members, volunteers, and guest contractors is crucial
  • Commitment to working in a creative environment that values respect, empathy, collaboration, and inclusion
  • Command of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Some weekend hours

Responsibilities

  • Organizes largescale events (Festivals and Spring Break Art Extravaganza) that engage thousands of visitors with free artmaking, featured guest artists and performers, and gallery activities for families
  • Oversees the “Studio A” play space for families with children five and younger
  • Encourages regular family engagement by facilitating monthly story times for early learners (ages 4–6) and adult companions, plus seasonal workshops for girl scouts
  • Provides support for a team of part-time educators who are responsible for monthly programs including Kimbell Kids Drop-In Studios and First Thursday Sketching Tours for homeschool families
  • Acts as the lead facilitator for all teen programs (including Teen Council and Teen Hangouts) with support from the education assistant; collaborates with guest artists to host the annual week-long Teen Summer Studio
  • Cultivates connections with peer organizations, as well as local studio artists and performers (music, dance, theater); guides contracted artists in program facilitation for family and teen audiences
  • Conducts volunteer docent trainings with detailed lesson plans for festivals and other major education events
  • Collaborates within the Education Department as assigned; reports to the head of education and ultimately to the head of academic services
