About The Position

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a Family and Consumer Science Educator to create, plan and implement assignments for visually impaired students in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville. This position conducts ongoing evaluations of assigned students and adjusts instruction accordingly and based on individual student needs. The incumbent prepares daily attendance reports and maintains and provides written reports of student progress. This position also requisitions and supervises the care and use of supplies and equipment. The Division is looking to hire a detail-oriented Educator with good communication and leadership skills to start the 2026 – 2027 school year.

Requirements

  • Requires the possession of current and valid ISBE-issued Professional Educator License with endorsement in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • Must meet Illinois School for the Visually Impaired health and safety requirements.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Nice To Haves

  • Endorsement in any area of special education such as teacher of the visually impaired or learning behavior specialist I (LBSI).
  • One (1) year of professional experience utilizing current educational trends, techniques, and best practices.
  • One (1) year of professional experience preparing written documentation related to student performance and education.
  • One (1) year of professional experience using the tools, materials and equipment associated with required coursework.
  • One (1) year of professional experience maintaining patience and tolerance while working with students with a wide range of behaviors.
  • One (1) year of professional experience maintaining effective working relationships with staff, assigned students and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a Family and Consumer Science Educator teaching students with low vision or blindness for the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI).
  • Conducts ongoing evaluations of assigned students and adjusts instruction accordingly.
  • Develops and modifies a sequential instructional curriculum to meet the needs of individual students assigned.
  • Prepares daily attendance reports.
  • Supervises the care and use of equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
