The Accounting Intern will gain hands-on experience by supporting the Accounting Department with daily operations while learning fundamental accounting principles, office procedures, and professional workplace skills. Schedule: Flexible, part-time (16-24 hours/week during business hours, M–F) Location: EveryMind Headquarters, Rockville, MD (with hybrid opportunities)

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Interest in nonprofit accounting and finance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with effective interpersonal abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate options and propose solutions
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information

Responsibilities

  • Accounting Department Shadowing – Observe and assist finance professionals as they carry out daily accounting tasks
  • Financial Record Management – Assist with research, data entry, filing, and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Bookkeeping Software Training – Gain hands-on experience working with accounting software under the supervision of finance staff
  • Confidentiality & Ethical Practices – Learn how to handle sensitive financial information with integrity
  • Team Collaboration – Work closely with the Accounting team to compile and analyze data, track financial information, and support different departments and programs
  • Project & Task Management – Take on additional projects to develop a deeper understanding of accounting and office operations
