About The Position

The Department of Neurology at The University of Kansas Health System and University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a full-time General/Headache Neurologist dedicated to telehealth care delivery to expand access to specialty care across rural Kansas. This position is part of an innovative, grant-supported initiative to build a statewide “virtual campus” model, delivering coordinated, high-quality neurological care to underserved populations. The neurologist will primarily provide telehealth consultations in partnership with rural primary care providers, helping address critical gaps in access—particularly in regions of Kansas that currently have no practicing neurologists. This is a 1.0 FTE telehealth-focused position (with limited in-person responsibilities to maintain clinical integration). This role actively contributes to the education and training of learners, including medical students, residents, fellows, or other trainees and participates in departmental and divisional academic activities.

Requirements

  • M.D., D.O., or equivalent.
  • Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Kansas.
  • Board-certified or Board-eligible in Neurology.
  • Residency training in Neurology.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in general neurology or headache medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient neurology consultations via telehealth to general neurology and headache patients located in rural clinics across Kansas.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based care plans in collaboration with local providers.
  • Support screening and early diagnosis and management of neurological conditions.
  • Participate in the development of telehealth workflows, protocols, and best practices.
  • Participate in a coordinated care model that integrates telehealth visits with local diagnostics, labs, and ongoing care.
  • Work alongside telehealth coordinators, nurse health coaches, and care navigators to improve patient outcomes and reduce barriers to care.
  • Maintain connection with the academic department through case discussions, education, and clinical collaboration.
  • Contribute to program growth and innovation in rural tele-neurology care.
  • Contribute to the education, training, and mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students, and other learners.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional meetings, case conferences, teaching rounds, seminars, or academic activities as assigned.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain expertise in general neurology and headache medicine.

Benefits

  • Coverage begins on day one for health, dental, and vision insurance and includes health expense accounts with generous employer contributions if the employee participates in a qualifying health plan.
  • Employer-paid life insurance, long-term disability insurance, and various additional voluntary insurance plans are available.
  • Paid time off, including vacation and sick, begins accruing upon hire, plus ten paid holidays.
  • One paid discretionary day is available after six months of employment, and paid time off for bereavement, jury duty, military service, and parental leave is available after 12 months of employment.
  • A retirement program with a generous employer contribution and additional voluntary retirement programs (457 or 403b) are available.
